Initial sketches and exploration of layering natural fibers of different weights.
Natural Dyes and Natural Fibers
Each costume piece was hand dyed using natural indigo, yellow and red onion skins, and madder root. Fibers of the garments ranged from natural fibers like rayon, viscose and cotton gauze.
The process of natural dye was an important element in the design and minimized the impact of waste typically seen in theatrical costume making. It created challenges and limitations but also showcased the beauty and simplicity of natural dyes within a small budget.
